gemma weekes.

   novelist/ singer/ poet.

(... writer.  mother.  musician.  lover.  fighter.  thinker.  goofball. romantic. alchemist.  giggler. poet.  thief.  dreamer. poser.  smarty pants.  woman.  child.  chocolate-lover...)

Gemma Weekes has made it, fragrant with perspiration, limping, bruised and calloused, to the finish line. Perspiration, of course, being completely metaphorical, as is the ‘finish line’, which actually symbolises her BOOK, entitled LOVE ME in the hopes that you will, actually, LOVE IT. (That is in no way an invitation for readers and critics to take the lazy route if they wish to disparage said text by snarling, I did NOT love LOVE ME. In fact it is an attempt to discourage such vitriol!)

Gemma Weekes wants us all to get along.

Gemma Weekes would be really happy if you bought her book and read it in the bath until you got wrinkly or on the tube until you missed your stop and had to get off, cross the platform and go back the other way but you didn’t mind because you were having fun and feeling transported by all the cinematic, poetic verve of her prose and the quirky cool of her characters. Go on. See if you can say all of that really fast!

Gemma Weekes is a Taurean, a Londoner and the mummy of one particularly delightful toddler (who actually wrote this biography). She is, to be slightly more coherent, an author (of course), a singer, a compulsive poet, and permanently budding guitarist. She has toured nationally with the Word Temple, directed by Amani Naphtali, and with Tell Tales. She has performed at the Jazz Cafe, Stratford East Theatre Royal, The Royal Festival Hall, the Albany, the Poetry cafe and at local dives too numerous to mention. Featured on Radio 1xtra, Radio 4's Bespoken Word, Radio 3's the Verb and Resonance FM. Published in several anthologies, including Kin (Serpants Tail), IC3 (Penguin) and Tell Tales. Been poor a lot. Featured in Trace Magazine - that was good. Gemma Weekes is currently working on her second novel and was joking about her toddler writing this biog. She can’t afford his services. He’s a pro.

And, finally, Gemma Weekes says... buy the book!
